ABOUT ME

When I was a kid and I took my 90's era, 12 key electric piano on a road trip instead of the Game Boy, my parents decided it was time to start piano lessons. I studied classical music through all grades of elementary school, and was happy with it until I started digging through my dad's vinyl collection and I stumbled upon Les McCann and Eddie Harris's amazing album Swiss Movement. After hearing that, I knew what I wanted to play, and it wasn't Mozart. In sixth grade, I started lessons with a new jazz teacher, auditioned for the jazz band, and never looked back. I rode the Seattle jazz pipeline through Roosevelt and UW, eventually graduating with a degree in Jazz Studies.

Since then, I've had the pleasure of playing with many different bands and experiencing Seattle's rich musical culture.  Just like when I was a kid pawing through dad's old LP's, I'm always listening for the next sound that inspires me. Over the years, I have been influenced by a wide variety of musicians from the old standards like Monty Alexander and Oscar Peterson, to modern sounds like Esbjorn Svensson, Hiromi, and The Bad Plus. It is my philosophy that ALL music should be enjoyed and there is no limit to the enjoyment it can provide.
